Social Responsability

This is the Foundation I choose to volunteer since my grandfather  died of cancer and it touches my heart. Fundación CAP

CAP is short for Pediatric Cancer Foundation. It was founded 20 years ago by Mrs. Tutty Irizarry and its main objective is to give the Oncology department of the Pediatric Hospital of PR (the public hospital) the best equipment and infrastructure possible. CAP was responsible for building the first Bone Marrow Transplant UNIT in a public hospital in PR. also bought a new air conditioner as well as a power plant that supplies energy to the full hospital not only the oncology unit. CAP also remodeled all the bedrooms at the Oncology Department, gives food to the patient's parents from Monday to Friday and visits the hospital every Tuesday to play with the patients, read books and give sometime off to the parents in order to take care of any personal diligence they might have. This year we have various proyects for which we are raising money. We want to buy a machine that suctions cerebral tumors without the need to undergo an invasive surgery. Some of our patient's health is so compromise they can't undergo an invasive surgery, so this machine may be their only hope for a full recovery. Also Cap is building a new kitchen at the department and remodeling the bedrooms.

On July, 2009 we coordinated a blood donation event "Sangria" in La Fortaleza along with the First Lady of PR, Mrs. Luisa "Piti" Gándara, the Health Department and the Blood Bank's Director, Dr. Rius. The event took place at the Governor's Mansion "Palacio de Santa Catalina". The Governor of PR, Aníbal Acevedo Vilá issued an executive order so that every public agency has to coordinate with the Health Department at least one blood donation event yearly at each agency. This blood will be process and stored at the public blood bank of Puerto Rico.

This year Carla's Sweets teamed up with famous Latin Singer Olga Tañón in an effort to raise money. For 8 weeks we sold Meringues at Wal-Mart & Sams Club with Olga's photo & autograph on the label. With much success Wal-Mart & Carla's Sweets were able to donate $10,000.00
